Acephate is an organophosphate insecticide acting as a systemic acetylcholinesterase inhibitor, providing effective control of a broad spectrum of sucking and chewing insects in vegetables, cotton, and ornamentals. It is unique among organophosphates for its systemic uptake and redistribution within plant tissue, offering protection at both treated and untreated plant parts. Acephate is metabolized in planta to methamidophos, which accounts for part of its residual insecticidal activity. Its water solubility and systemic properties make it well-suited for foliar and soil application programs.
