Spinosad is a naturally derived insecticide produced by the soil actinomycete bacterium Saccharopolyspora spinosa, consisting of a mixture of spinosyn A and spinosyn D compounds. It acts on nicotinic acetylcholine receptors and GABA-gated chloride channels in the insect nervous system, providing rapid and effective control of lepidopteran larvae, thrips, leafminers, and fruit flies.
